In November, 2006 my sister from New York wanted to sell the house that I had been living in for the past 11 years. I found myself with a decision to make. I wanted to buy the house, but I wasn’t sure that my credit rating was good enough to get a mortgage. I was reluctant to go just anywhere. I called my sister in New York and my credit union. I called with a lot of questions. I was really serious about what I was about to do and a little nervous too. As a first time buyer, even the language of mortgages was unfamiliar to me. Everyone was so helpful and made this so easy. They explained everything to me in terms I was familiar with. Then I went on the credit union’s website and applied for my mortgage. This put me in contact with Independent Mortgage Associates, the credit union’s mortgage banker.
I pulled some documentation for IMA, even more than they required. I wanted to make sure I covered everything. I didn’t get an answer right away, but the representative from IMA told me that “No news is good news” and that I could relax and take it easy. So, I did and waited just a day or two. On December 7, 2006, my sister from New York and I met with the Lawyer to close the deal at the very place, my credit union, that made this all possible for me. The credit union has put together a wonderful team of people who made it possible for my dream of homeownership to come true. I thought back about the message in the poem of “The Footprint”; how was everything done without the man continuing to walk on his own? The answer was that he was carried the rest of the way. I feel the same way about my mortgage experience that began with a phone call on November 17, 2006 and ended on December 7, 2006.
I feel I was carried the rest of the way. First have faith, believe in yourself and then call the Credit Union. Thanks for everything Savannah Federal!
Sincerely,
Diana McNeal
